Jury Duty

I've finally been called for jury duty. First time. I'll let you know how it goes at the San Francisco Courthouse on July 25th. Anyways, this news sent me to the net, where I found all sorts of interesting sites. Grow a Brain, you will see, is co-blogging with the Pick this evening.

It's a little dismaying that most sites offering jury advice lean towards the "How to Get Out of Jury Duty" focus. Here are some of the best of them: Jury Duty Excuses -- 12. "Please excuse me from jury duty so I can attend a St. Patrick's Day party" (not accepted)... AskMen.com also has a take.

Radwin.org blogs his first-day jury experience.

This State of Arizona site offers "Tips for Coping" after Jury Service. Yikes. -- "Relax with deep breathing: Breathe in slowly through your nose. Breathe out through your mouth. Slow your thoughts down and think about a relaxing scene. Continue deep breathing until you feel more relaxed."

Meanwhile, Splendora Blog has tips for coping during jury service.

How to Dress for Jury Duty -- Perfume allergies by Tommy S... "A part of jury duty is being confined to a small and crowded locale. Wearing heavy perfume can be nauseating to some and may bring on an allergic reaction in others. Try to avoid wearing perfume or cologne while you're on jury duty."

Here's a rock n' roll band called A Jury of Robots.

This is my favorite -- Do's and Don'ts from Washington Courts: "DON'T draw straws, flip coins or otherwise arrive at your verdict by chance"..." \DON'T try to uncover evidence on your own. Never, for example, go to the scene of an event that was part of the case you are hearing."

Blogging Baby has a story about a pregnant woman who called in sick for jury duty and was subsequently jailed for three days.
